Welcome
Worries about food can be all-consuming, we can help to set you free from these worries
Welcome - I am Uxshely, a psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, registered nutritionist and lawyer and I founded The Food Therapy Clinic. I never get tired of hearing clients telling me "I can finally eat normally now", "I actually enjoy food again and can go out for meals with my friends" or "I just feel so much more in control of my food choices".
I understand how challenging it can be to struggle with your relationship with food. Issues around food can have an impact on every area of your life. Nobody should have to spend their life worrying about food or their weight, obsessing over food choices, feeling guilty for eating or feeling out of control around food.
The team of therapists at The Food Therapy Clinic is here to help you to completely rebuild your relationship with food. We understand how food-related issues can really stop you from enjoying life. We also know that short-term quick-fixes don't tend to work long-term. Our goal is that you make sustainable changes to your eating habits so that you are free to get on with enjoying your life.

How It Works
Rebuilding your relationship with food for the long-term

All of the therapists at The Food Therapy Clinic use FTCM® (the Food Therapy Clinic Method), which is a new interdisciplinary approach to eating psychology, to treat issues around food. The treatment of emotional eating, binge-eating, food aversions, obesity, eating-disorders and other food-related issues require both an understanding of nutrition and an understanding of the psychological factors driving the conditions. Rather than having to see several specialists in psychotherapy, nutrition, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, behaviour change and coaching - we give you access to a personally tailored treatment that brings together the most effective techniques from all of these disciplines. We understand how frustrating it is to try lots of solutions that only give short-term results. Instead, we provide a unique treatment based on effective behaviour change principles, which can resolve your issues around food for good.
We offer both:

ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS, in the London clinic and remotely as video calls using Zoom; and
SELF-HELP OPTIONS, a range of 8-week online transformation programmes that you can guide yourself through with our support.
We help you to rebuild your relationship with food so that you can feel free around food. We also help to set you free from obsessive thoughts about food and your body so that maintaining good health is no longer a constant battle and struggle. Our goal is to help you to build good habits around food that you can sustain for a lifetime, to free up time and energy for you to focus on the things you love to do.

Why It Works
An interdisciplinary approach
FTCM® is an interdisciplinary treatment

A complex matrix of factors shape our relationship with food. Firstly, our food choices are very heavily influenced by our mental and emotional well-being. Very often eating disorders are born out of a need for control. Weight gain often comes when an individual tries to find comfort in food or uses food to deal with trauma or stressful situations. We do not just look at food as nourishment - food very often means a whole lot more. This is why, in order to change the way we eat, we have to address the psychological drivers for our food choices. A range of other factors also affect our food choices, including how much sleep we are getting, the habits we have formed and the associations with certain foods that we have built up throughout our life. This is why it is important to examine our relationship with food from a range of different angles.
Understanding our relationship with food also requires an in depth understanding of nutrition and behaviour change. Simply telling people to "eat less" or to "just eat more" or instructing them to "stop eating when they are full" or to "just try more foods" is rarely effective. Often there are nutritional factors that cause issues such as binge-eating or emotional eating and in order to make changes to our eating habits which will stick in the long-term, we need to employ some behaviour change tools. This treatment is effective because we bring together the extensive research on nutrition, the psychology of eating and behaviour change - to give you a treatment you won't find elsewhere. We also look at the range of other factors that may impact your relationship with food including your sleep quality, stress levels, body image and more.
Why are meal plans unsustainable?

Meal plans may assist an individual to lose or gain weight or to regulate their eating patterns in the short-term but unless that individual also addresses the psychological drivers for their food choices, they will just return to their old habits as soon as they return to "normal" eating. We all have certain food-related habits that a diet or meal plan alone cannot change. To change these habits requires an understanding of why and when the habit came into existence and how it can be altered for good. We help you to understand why you have developed your food-related habits and to change these so that you can lead a healthy and happy life, without having to worry about making unhelpful food choices. We want you to leave us feeling empowered and knowing that the shifts you have made to your relationship with food will stick for the long-term.

Techniques
We use a range of techniques to help you to make permanent changes
Each of our treatment programmes use FTCM® (the Food Therapy Clinic Method) which is a unique interdisciplinary method for resolving foods issues. This interdisciplinary method incorporates tools from disciplines such as: hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, sleep science, behaviour change, mindfulness, eating psychology and the field of nutrition to ensure that we are looking at and resolving your food issue from a range of different angles.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a tool which enables individuals to alter subconscious behaviours.

Anyone that drives or dances will know that they do not perform these actions through conscious thinking - these activities are often performed in auto-pilot mode, once an individual has had enough practice. Much in the same way a lot of people’s eating habits are just behaviours they perform in auto-pilot mode. Reaching for biscuits when you are stressed or ice-cream when you are sad, is just an automatic subconscious response. Hypnotherapy can be used to change these subconscious behaviours so that you can regain control over your decisions around food.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is an exploratory form of talking therapy which enables individuals to investigate the drivers behind their choices.
Psychotherapy encompasses a range of different therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy and humanistic therapy. In different ways, all of these forms of therapy, can be used to help you to determine why you are making certain food choices. You can uncover exactly what is triggering your disordered eating and then work to alter your responses to these triggers. Psychotherapy is also used to resolve any stress/anxiety/depression that may be underlying your eating condition.
Nutrition
There is so much contradictory nutritional information publicly available that it can be difficult to know exactly what nutritional changes would really benefit your health.
In a sector dominated by fads and quick fixes, it can be tempting to follow the latest “diet plan” or food craze. However these quick fixes rarely provide a long-term solution. We take a science based approach to nutrition. Our recommendations are based on research and evidence, ensuring that you can make permanent changes to your eating habits and reach your health and weight goals safely.
Mindfulness
So often we eat in a rush, at our desks, on the train or in front of the television, that we do not even notice just how much we are eating.

In a society that has too much to do, too many deadlines to meet and no time to just sit and enjoy food - it is no wonder that so many people have disordered eating. We use techniques derived from meditation and mindfulness practices to help you to become more aware of what and how much you are eating. When you are able to respond to your body’s natural cues and needs, you will find that disordered eating is no longer an issue.
